About Us

The Central Vancouver Island Botanical Garden Society is a strong supporter and promoter of the local garden community and horticulture.

Our Mission

  • To provide an exhibit of native and exotic plants in a beautiful, sustainable, and informative setting;
  • Offer useful and interesting information about plants and sustainable sites to the public;
  • Give advice on horticultural items with the expertise of the staff;
  • Provide facilities for displays of flowers, plants and plant products, lectures, symposia, demonstrations and meetings of all kinds related to horticultural education;
  • Provide library reference and study facilities in horticulture, botany and related fields;
  • Engage in exchange, testing and evaluation of new and desirable plants to the ultimate benefit of the public;
  • Conserve plants that may be in danger of depletion or extinction.

The role of a botanical garden is to foster a greater understanding of role and importance of plants to life and the value of preserving the planet’s biodiversity for our future generations.

CVIBGS Board Meeting - 3rd Thursday of the month, 5:00 PM at GR Paine Centre Garden Show Committee Meeting - 3rd Thursday of the month, 6:00 PM at GR Paine Centre The Committee meeting will start after the Board business concludes.


GR Paine Centre is located at 2324 East Wellington Road in Nanaimo.


We are still looking to fill more positions on our Board and committees. If you have an interest in gardens large and small and can contribute, please join us at the meeting! Mark your calendars and be there! If you have any questions, please call Keltie Chamberlain at 250-729-0436 All Members and/or Guests are welcome to sit in at our Meetings.
